Official BTRDA/MDA preview:
Round 5 of the Autorsport International BTRDA/MDA championship takes
place on Bank Holiday Monday 29th August at the Lydden Hill Circuit
in Kent.
Having had the first 5 events run seperately by the MDA at the Blyton
Park Circuit, the remaining 3 rounds now join forces with the LHMC who
will be running events at Lydden Hill, Knockhill and Mallory Park. All
BTRDA Clubmans classes will be present at Lydden Hill and will be sure
to put on some great racing infront of a packed crowd.
The SuperModified class see's a healthy line up of cars headed by last
event winner Gary Simpson in his BMW who will be looking for another
strong result. Hot on his heals at the last event and current class
leader 2010 newcomer Gary Cook in his MG ZR will be looking to strengthen
his position at the top of the table. Winner of the first 3 events Scotsman
Ian Biagi will make the long trip to Lydden in order to boost his championship
chances. Back on form at the last event 2 weeks ago, Gary Dixon in his
Astra will be hoping for a top 3 finish at Lydden. Another BMW driver
looking for a good result is Malcolm Boyd who is joined by fellow North
West Competitor Richard Moore in his unique Evo powered Ford Fiesta.
Other drivers to watch out for include Geordie racer Brian Jukes (Seat
Ibiza), Cumbria's David Ewin (Fiesta), Barry Dutton (Renault Megane),
new racer Phil Wood (Peugeot 205) and rallycross returnee Russell Crampton
in his ultra fast spaceframed Rover Mini.
The hotly contested Stockhatch class will once again have a very strong
line up of cars with all drivers trying hard to stop the dominant Martin
Peters taking his 5th event win in a row. Having managed to keep out
of trouble and show pace when it matters Peters has so far been unbeaten
in all A Finals so far this year. The event win might be made slightly
easier with Ben Cree absent from the event as he is off to the tour
of Flanders rally. One driver who will be looking to beat Peters is
local racer from Canterbury Darren Clark in his Saxo who is sure to
give him a good run to the flag. Some new driver/car combinations to
watch out for include Chris Hickey who is driving the ex Dave Pearson
Peugeot 205 and Aylesbury's Mark Bright who is driving the ex Sean Smith
Peugeot 106 GTi. Other drivers who are in the top 6 in the championship
and looking for good results include Dave Ellis, Craig Lomax, Slomwir
Woloch and Jonathan Rook in the Spoox Motorsport Citroen Saxo VTR. One
driver who is hoping he has finally sorted out the gremlins which have
prevented him having a good event so far is Adam Walker from Basingstoke
in his Citroen Saxo VTS. Having rolled at the June event at Blyton Polish
driver Tomasz Weilgosz has spend the past few weeks putting together
a new Peugeot 106 GTI and hopes to keep out of trouble. Two futher Kent
based driver looking for a good result on home soil are Paul Maybourne
and Nick Potter both in Peugeot's.
The minicross class has provided some good racing so far this year and
Lydden should be no exception. Revivals boss and long time minicross
driver Richard Wakeling managed to knock Tom Edwardes off top spot for
the first time this year at the last event and will be hoping for a
good result. Tom Edwardes starts the event as championship leader but
there are a number of drivers hoping to stop his winning streak and
these include, Mark Griffin, Todd Crooks, and minicross newby Michael
Roche.

- Round 5 Blyton Preview
Preview:
This Sunday see's round 5 of the Autosport International BTRDA and MDA
Clubmans Rallycross Championship take place at the Blyton Park Circuit
in Lincolnshire.
All the classes are well represented and will also be boosted by the
NORA racing buggies at the event with racing starting at 9.30am on Sunday.
With only 2 weeks since the last round the entry see's a few absentee's
but is still very strong in all classes.
The Supermodified class is the biggest class on the entry and is led
by the winner of the last event Gary Cook in his MG ZR who will be hoping
for another strong result. Having won the first 3 events Scot Ian Biagi
sustained suspension damage at the start of the final in the last event
and will be looking to reverse his fortunes and bring home a good result.
Another Scot Kenny Hall in his Renault Clio will also be looking for
a strong result having lost a wheel in the A final last time out. Other
drivers to watch out for include Gary Simpson BMW, Dave Baines Peugeot
306, John Mooney Vauxhall Astra and the super fast Gary Dixon who will
be looking for a more competitive showing in only his 2nd event of the
year. Three BMW Mini's line up for the event in the hands of Kris Hudson,
Keifer Hudson and George Edwardes who will all looking for good results
against the more developed modified cars.
Having provided some of the best racing at the last event and a frantic
A final which required 3 starts and involved 2 rolls the stockhatch
class will once again be hotly contested. Citroen Saxo driver Martin
Peters managed somehow to come from the 2nd row on the grid and keep
out of trouble to claim his 4th win of the year. Once again Ben Cree
came home in 2nd place and will be once again pushing Peters all the
way to the flag. Less fortunate last time was Craig Lomax who was one
of the drivers to roll in the Final, has spent the past 10 days repairing
his battered Saxo VTR ready for the event and will be pushing for a
good result. One driver to watch out for is High Wycombe's Jonathan
Rook in his Spoox Motorsport Citroen Saxo who hopes to of solved the
rev limiting and over heating problems which affected his last event.
Other drivers to watch out for include Darren Swales who is testing
again prior to the BRC event, Adam Walker who will be hoping he has
solved the alternator problems which blighted his last event and local
racer Damon Fatchett. Completing the entry and both hoping for good
points score finishes are Chris Harper and Dave Ellis.
The Edwardes Bros Minicross class will also see drivers batteling it
out for top honours with revivals boss Richard Wakeling hoping take
top spot away from Tommi Edwardes who has scored 4 wins out of 4. Having
moved up from the junior minicross class Todd Crook claimed his first
podium finish of the year and will be hoping for another good result.
Ferryhill's David Bell has had a good year so far and will be hoping
for a strong finish to booster his championship chances.
The Junior Minicross class has 2 starters and Andrew Lewis will be looking
to challenge Ken Sumanadasa and take the top spot on the podium.
The events starts at 9.30am Sunday 14th August at the Blyton Park Circuit,
Lincolnshire
The weekend saw the 4th
round of the MDA/BTRDA Rally cross take place at the Lincolnshire circuit.
This was the Memorial Meeting for Dominic Yates and was well supported
by fellow racers.
The sun was also with us and the Minicross Class was running 9 car
grids adding loads of excitement for the first corner. Earlier in the
day Clark the Entertainer retired with a blown head gasket and Griffin’s
fuel pump packed up in the start line before the lights went out. With
Sammy O’Flanagan unable to get her car started to make it on to
the grid. Which left only 6 cars actually starting the final.
But there was one driver that was pulling away all day who continued
to do so in the Final to take his 4th consecutive win of the year. Tommi
Edwardes in the Edwardes Bros Sponsored Car led from the start and was
virtually unchallenged to take the chequed flag. Wakeling took 2nd followed
by Todd Crooks. See the attached for the final standings of Round 4.Click

Blyton Pre Race Report
The Autosport International
BTRDA and MDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship reaches its half way
stage when Round 4 of the Championship takes place at the Blyton Park
Race Circuit in Lincolnshire this Sunday 31st July.
This event is is the Memorial Meeting for 18 year old former rallycross
and rally driver Dominic Yates who died in a road accident last Christmas.
All of the classes will be represented with all the championships still
up for grabs with no driver showing total domination. A fantastic entry
of 50 cars has been lined up for the event, which is a sign of the strength
and depth of the Autosport International BTRDA Clubmans Championship.
Topping the entry and surely one of the favourites for the event is
Simon Horton is his brand new 550bhp Subaru Impreza supercar. Simon
has spent the winter building up his new machine and is very much looking
forward to putting the car through its paces prior to its BRC debut
at Lydden Hill in August.
With the event falling nicely in a break between British Championship
events this has allowed some top drivers to join the action at the Blyton
Circuit. One of these drivers is Geordie boy Michael Boak in his unique
diesel powered Audi TT will definately give Simon Horton's Subaru a
run for its money and will be looking for a trouble free run. Fresh
from a complete car re-built Andy Knowles will bring his European spec
Citroen C2 to the event and will be hoping for a competitive run prior
to the next BRC meeting at Lydden Hill in August. Two other BRC regulars
to watch out for are Phil Chicken in his VW Golf and last years BTRDA
Champion Shelley Wakeling in her Honda Civic Type R.
The 26 car Super Modified class has been highly contested with the
little 1400cc Rover Mini of Scottish driver Iain Biagi scoring three
wins out of three, showing the way home to much more powerful machinery,
proving its not always the biggest engines which succeed. Hot on his
heels in the first few events have seen Gary Simpson in his RWD BMW,
Kenny Hall Renault Clio, Gary Cook MG ZR and after losing a race against
time to get his MR2 re-built after its recent roll John Wood, will be
coming out in a new modified Peugeot 205 will all be aiming to knock
Iain off top spot. Some other drivers to watch out for include Paul
Wakeling in the very powerful AMG Mercedes powered MG ZS, Glen Guthrie
in his VR6 powered VW Golf, Richard Moore in his Mitsubishi EVO powered
Ford Fiesta and John Mooney who is always quick in his MK4 Astra. Also
a driver making a return to Rallycross is local driver Craig Austin
who will be using the ex John Wood Toyota MR2 MK1 for the very first
time.
In the hotly contested Stockhatch category which is for 8v and 16v
standard production cars with limited modifications a grid of 14 is
entered for the event. This class also has seen a driver score 3 wins
out of 3, with Martin Peters showing the rest that a Citroen Saxo VTR
can lead the way. How on his heals in the first 3 events Ben Cree in
his Peugeot 205 is likely to push Peters all the way to the flag and
will be looking for his first win. Newcomers to the class, Craig Lomax
and Dave Ellis in last years championship winning car will also be looking
for good results after a few dramas and incidents in the first 3 meetings.
The Polish duet of Slawowir Woloch and Tomasz Wielgosz who have both
shown good levels of pace in the early events will also be looking for
a good result. Other drivers to watch out for include John Rook, Chris
Harper and Damon Fatchett who will all be aiming for good points finishes.
Set to join the field at the event is Darren Swales in his newly built
16v Citroen Saxo and Lee Hickey's father (Steve) who will be joining
his son in the class driving the ex Dave Pearson Peugeot 205. Rallycross
newby Paul Maybourne will be hoping for another competitive meeting
in only his 2nd rallycross event in the ex Ryan Lawford Peugeot 205
GTi. Another newby to the sport is Basingstoke driver Adam Walker who
has a troubled debut event in April and is hoping for better things
in his newly powered 16v Citroen Saxo VTS.
The Minicross class is the 3rd one in which a driver has scored 3 wins
out of 3 which has seen Tommi Edwardes dominate events so far. How on
his heels and both looking for their first wins of the year will be
long time Minicross driver and Revivals owner Richard Wakeling and son
of the former Super car driver Tony Bell, David Bell. Other drivers
to watch out for in the class include new for this year Todd Crookes,
Mark Griffin, class returnee Brian Wade and returning for a one off
meeting after getting her exams out the way will be Kelly Bird, will
all be aiming for good results.
A couple of Juniors are entered along with some rally cars which when
added to the stockhatch and super modified entry will all provide a
fantastic days racing.
Event details:
Racing will begin at 9.30am with heats and finals to follow afterwards.

2011 European Trip over for another Year
2011 saw another great week away for the MDA. This year saw the Classic,
BMW and Sarb BMW mini all travel across the meeting. The weather was
not playing its usually part with cloud and rain clouds looming, but
race day on Sunday stayed fine. This year all classes used the Joker
lap, which had moved down the track. It was a very eventfully day and
all but one made it round the track to put a good show on. Ian Clark
blew his gear box up so was unable to start the final. Wakeling took
the top spot of the podium with Ben Clark 2nd and Griffin 3rd.
It was then off to the campsite for a week’s relaxing and some
midweek go karting. Willem Veltman took the top of the podium with Kiefer
Hudson 2nd and Bell 3rd .
Sunday at the Valkenswaard – Eurocircuit was fine despite 3 days
of rain during the week. Ian Clark managed to change his gear book during
the week in between it pouring down. This year was seeing a new era
with the BMW mini’s racing in the same race as the Classic Mini’s.
Things started well for the classic mini’s with Wakeling and
Ben Clark taking 1st and 2nd in the first heat with a BMW behind. This
is how it was to end up at the start of the Final with Kiefer Hudson
taking the final position on the front row. The first corner was certainly
a corner to watch for the spectators are they all roared down but Wakeling
came round first with B Clark 2nd and Kiefer 3rd, followed by Bell and
Griffin and Edwardes. The BMW’s were finding it hard to over take
and no positions changed for 2 laps before Wakeling had carb problems
and starting coasting down to the chicane. This left all the drivers
behind to take emergency action and try and avoid each other.
Neil Wade and Kris Hudson both experience engine problems and were
unable to take part in the finals.
This was the change in the race, which saw G Edwardes drive right though
to take the leave, but the entertainer I Clark had no option but to
driver straight over the chicane and launch his car into 2nd place,
and Bell managed to rejoin and tuck into 3rd with Sammy right behind.
Richard, Kiefer and Ben Clark then retired, leaving Griffin to continue
half a lap behind.
The 1st outing for the BMW’s at Valkenswaard – Eurocircuit
saw G Edwardes take the top step of the podium with a well desired 2nd
for Ian Clark and 3rd for David Bell and Sammy O’flanagon 4th.
29th July 2011 -
Tommi Edwardes wins again.
Tommi Edwardes extends his
lead of the 2011 MDA Edwardes Bros Championship at Blyton earlier this
month. Despite the wet start to the day Tommi dominated the day and
lead from start to finish in the final. Wakeling came 2nd with Bell
close behind.
29th July 2011 -

Well there I sat....ahead on my right, the Champ, still a contender
for BTRDA honours and pretty desperate for a final win, ahead to my
left the young pretender, contender for MDA and BTRDA honours and most
finals wins 2010, and ahead far left probably the fastest driver all
year, but not the most consistent, also a contender for BTRDA and MDA
honours......this random thought flicks through the old grey cells,
.......is this a grenade waiting to go off......and there we sat ...for
2 minutes....the grenade changed to a time bomb.. the pressure on that
front row was at boiling point and boy O boy did it go off, within 50
meters they were not going the right way!!!!! Both Ben and Kris(amazingly)
made great starts, George was half a car behind but came out the back..
like a wet bar of soap…but that wasn’t quick enough Ben
got turned left and Kris got turned right…BOOOM… free pass,
thank you very much, but I would have preferred to see a bit more of
a race, Kris got round the first turn but suffered with gearbox problems
from this , his race done…and Ben was bouncing off the wall, so
those of us left …off we went. The race was pretty much messed
up, George and me were clear, keeping a careful eye on things at the
end of lap 3 I could see Ben getting back onto Tommy…how did he
do that?… the crash must have jammed the throttle (or his brain!!)..
He was coming blindingly fast, 2 more notches on the pace maker, and
the speed was just enough to hold him off. So George got the titles,
Ben got runner up (again!!!) (note ! For each year) and Kris limped
in for third(overall). It has been the fastest year ever. Ben ever the
entertainer, will now be looking back at lost points on the last lap…I
hope he never learns… Kris will be looking back on a season of
crummy starts… sorry but it’s true… an don’t
blame the car cos the OF got the jump on him several times… and
George well he can just celebrate.
There has been some silly things in the pits this year, so think about
these words of wisdom (by kind donation of another OF):-
In a crash there are 3 versions,
The opinion of the one driver,
The opinion of the other driver,
AND WHAT REALLY HAPPENED !!!!
Of course in Mini X we have other versions
but fact is you are out of order taking any problem up with anyone other
than the Clerk.
Rally Cross is a sprint in one lane, imagine what would happen in athletics
if they tried to do the 100 meters like that. I love the sport because
of this , you race in the boot or on the door, you try not to give an
inch, only to take an inch, the Mini’s are the only class that
can get side by side on the racing line (commonly known as giving a
HUG), so rest assured leave a 3 foot hole and a Mini will fill it!!!
That is how it is. Rest assured occasionally it will end in tears, the
pressure is immense. The amazing thing is that when you look at any
race via the telly, you realise that even you don’t know precisely
what happens in tight situations, and that makes sense, cos just how
many things do happen!!!
So for us the season ended the best for several years, cool head George
did the business, Shelley finished in style, taking pole and the final
win, and the OF managed his best of the season, mainly due to the crazy
horses!!
The Dinner and Dance was again a great time, what a great job was done
by the team of Sammy, Mark and Shelley. Sammy and Mark did all the final
settings, and the table settings were the best ever. It was a great
evening, with great company, and I had a dance with the latest MDA member…Harriet,
will she ever be the same again!!! Blinding, thanks to all.
So what of next season, well we have no changes to the tech regs and
that is good, we will run alongside the BTRDA at the BRC/LHMC events,
we will be running support events again next season at Blyton, so to
racers.
What is known(sort of), Team Hudson have open options on either New
or Old Mini but will be playing, what ever they choose to do, they will
be competitive. Kelly is in a similar position but did have a difficult
time in the Seniors, I hope she continues, us with Shelley went through
several seasons that were difficult but now she’s quite happy
to have a bundle with anyone. Team Edwardes, George is looking to move
to Super Mods, but the fact is that he has enjoyed this season hugely
and would miss all the Crossers and their nutty ways. Tommy is going
to be racing, and lets face it he can’t have the same level of
bad luck that he had this year, and has proved very fast. Sammy is a
definite, she getting the new car out which is significantly lighter
than the current one. Ben (crazy horse)Clarke is racing for his fourth
championship 2nd(teehee) well I’m going to win next year, anyway
Ben’s speed speaks for it’s self. John Thacker has his car
ready, but clearly with the new babe (no not Steph), he will run a selected
calendar, my hope here is that he does a couple early on, does good,
and gets real keen, in reality Johns a great thinker and will do just
as he plans. Now then, Team Griffin, Mark is guaranteed, and hopes to
run with Chris Cairns , Ian Clarke, and Martin Knowles. Martin has finished
his rebuild and is ready to go, so that is a big boost. Front runner
David Bell is set return in 2011 in his usual immaculate car. Well here’s
another TWO. Matt Roach is coming back……. Matt never does
things by halves, he will have top class kit, and will be pretty quickly
back on the pace, he is also getting a second car ready for a chap who
works for him, and plus he has persuaded Sean Smith to race again next
season, and Sean is also a front runner. I know for a fact that all
these lads are robust racers and will get amongst the results. Number
2 Ralph and Charley Budd are racing, Ralph as a past Champion will be
back in the thick of the racing, and Charley is the driving force and
only wants to do the Mini X. Phil Sharpe is also on the return, he has
the budget and is going to get sorted in the new year. Phil has tried
different race forms but nothing is as crazy as Mini X or ticks as many
boxes. Mal Dickenson is still to race again, having suffered problems
,but the car is there so lets hope he is ready(give me a call Mal).
The Hire drive is already taking bookings so that is another one, and
over the years some of these people have got amongst it.These additions
are blinding, there is no doubt these racers will be in the thick of
it, and consistent results will be difficult, but if it’s tight
racing you want then Mini X 2011 is the place to be. Now I hope I haven’t
forgotten anyone but by my reckoning, that’s a possible 20 , streuth!!
Time to sharpen the elbows….oh dear that was motorcycling….Ahh
well bless the remaining grey cells!!!!

- Statement from the New 2011 Chairman
The 2010 season has finished
with a great dinner and dance enjoyed by all( who can remember).
The table settings and layout was one of the best I have seen ( well
done Sam and Mark ).
Congratulations to everyone who won an award and to all who tried their
hardest.
Our Ron had a great send off to warmer climates and we all look foreword
to seeing him back in 2011.
The new committee has been formed and looking foreword to the challenges
in 2011 carrying on the good work done by all from last year.
Apart from one or two of us old ones it's good to see some young faces
on the committee .
2011 plans are starting to take shape with a new website format (thanks
to Griffin ) and the new BMW mini challenge.
In this hard financial time it's not easy but we hope to produce a good
package that suits us all.
Promotional info is starting to take shape to encourage more to join
us in the future.
We have a good working relationship with the BTRDA which together should
make us stronger in 2011.
See you all in 2011 but before have a Merry Christmas and a Happy new
Year.
