Rallycross car - Triumph GT6
Triumph GT6 Rallycross special
This revivals Rallycross car uses the rear suspension from a 1970’s
Triumph GT6 autocross/rallycross, specialy built by Roger Dowson shortly
after he left the Triumph competitions Department. The original car
was fitted with a Dolomite Sprint engine and raced with Castrol sponsorship.
It therefore has a direct connection to the works competition dept and
to the formative years of rally cross. The rear suspension uses equal
length non parallel wishbones controlled by coil springs and dampers
as opposed to the standard cars swing axle and transverse leaf spring.
A chassis box section locates the suspension components and houses the
limited slip differential, as well as the inboard rear brakes which
are vented by ducts exiting behind the rear window.
Front suspension is conventional GT6 with uprated components and a
quick rack. Brakes are discs, vented at the front using Willwood Dynalite
calipers, and Reynard formula ford calipers at the back, a balance bar
connects the 2 circuits. The engine is a short stroke 2.3 litre race
unit fed by triple 45mm webers which has been dyno tested at 186 bhp
at the rear wheels. The exhaust is a Triumph tune extractor unit feeding
a 2.5 inch diameter pipe with silencer. Oil sump is baffled. Radiator
is a large cross flow type with swirl pot / header tank. Clutch is a
Triumph tune race unit, gearbox is TR race spec and the diff has TR6
internals in a TR4 housing, half shafts are TR5/6, the GT6 rear uprights
are adapted to take TR6 bearings. The engine is mounted 9 inches further
back than standard which has necessitated a new bulkhead in reinforced
aluminium, there is a letter from the MSA waiving a regulation on bulkhead
materials in view of the cars “historic” status [their italics].

BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross SuperModified Championship winning car
Peugeot 205 2 litre 16 valve
Car was built during 2005 using many new parts. Has been 100% reliable
in 2006 and 2007, finishing no lower than 2nd place in 15 consecutive
meetings. Brand new engine was built in 2006 by Road And Track Developments
using polished crank and rods, forged pistons, baffled sump, rebored
block(thick walled XU10), ported and polished head, cat cams, new hydraulic
lifters and springs, steel competition head gasket, new water pump and
pulleys. No expense spared on build. Engine was then stripped and refreshed
for 2007 using new piston rings, big end shells, and re honing the bores.
Only 7 meetings since full rebuild. Engine produces 178bhp at the wheels.
Engine management is Lamentation C451. All software and leads provided
with car. Car uses Saab Turbo injectors, cleaned and tested in 2007.
New Roller Barrel Throttle Bodies were fitted for 2007 giving better
drivability and more power. New Tran X Plate LSD was fitted for 2007,
and huge improvement over the Quaife ATB! AST lightrweight Coilover
dampers are fitted to the front and AST Dampers fitted to rear. Rear
ARB and Torsion bars are uprated. 309GTI Front Bottom Arms are used
for more camber, along with matching hubs, discs, calipers and driveshafts
BE1 1.6 205GTI Gearbox is used, rebuilt in 2005. New paddle clutch fitted
for 2007. Car has only done 7 events in 2007, winning 3 and coming 2nd
in the other 4. All MSA logbooked, plumbed in extinguisher, six point
harness (in date). Bodykit made of fibreglass, some made of Kevlar and
carbon. Only the roof is steel. Car runs on Kumho slicks on front, cut
slick on rear in dry. Spares to include 7 spare wheels and tyres, including
Avon Wets, shafts, radiators, hubs, calipers and various bits and bobs.
Car is prepped and ready to go and win in 2008. Car is eligible for
MDA Revivals, BTRDA Super Mods, Open Series Super Nationals, and BRDA

for purchase. This engine was prepared in the Revivals workshops and
comes complete with control cam and is drilled for sealing. The engine
has been well maintained and oil/filter changed every two meetings.

car including Hilos, seat, dash, unused battery box, tank, alloy wheels
and an unused front subframe.
